SendGrid has two products, priced differently
SendGrid sells two things under one roof: the Email API for transactional sending, the receipts and resets and notifications, and Marketing Campaigns for newsletters and promotions. They are priced separately, and which one you need changes the math entirely.
Email API pricing
- Free is 100 emails a day for 60 days, then it stops.
- Essentials is about $19.95 a month for 50,000 emails, then a small per-email overage.
- Pro is about $89.95 a month for higher volumes, with a dedicated IP included.
Sending 40,000 transactional emails a month sits inside Essentials at about $20.
Marketing Campaigns pricing
- Free is limited, with branding.
- Basic starts around $15 a month for a small contact list.
- Advanced is about $60 a month at 10,000 contacts, with a dedicated IP. This is the marketing tier most teams land on.
What to watch
- Account suspensions are a recurring complaint, with new accounts paused for review and slow support to resolve it.
- The template builder is dated and there is no AI to help you write or design.
- Two products, two configurations. Marketing and transactional do not share one brand setup.
SendGrid is priced as infrastructure. That is fine if you want raw API sends, and a poor fit if you want email that looks designed.
How SmartMailing compares
SmartMailing runs marketing and transactional on one stack under one brand, with an AI builder that produces Outlook-safe, on-brand email from your website, a per-brand deliverability score, and EU-based operation. If you care what the email looks like in the inbox and not just that it sends, that is the difference. Paste your URL and see it on your brand for free.
