About this Transactional email template

The Shipping Update email template is a transactional email design — the kind triggered by a user action like a purchase, password reset, or shipping update. Transactional emails have the highest engagement of any email type because users are actively looking for them. SmartMailing's AI-generated transactional email templates are built for clarity over creativity: instant comprehension, accurate data, and a clean, no-nonsense layout that survives Outlook, Gmail, and Apple Mail without rendering bugs.

When to use this transactional email

Best practices for transactional email templates

• Lead with the data, not the marketing. Order number, total, and "what happens next" should be visible without scrolling.
• Use a transactional-only sending domain (e.g., notifications.yourbrand.com) to protect deliverability.
• Avoid promotional content in transactional emails — most jurisdictions allow no more than 20% promotional content in a transactional template.
• Always include a clear "did you not request this?" link for security-related emails (password reset, login alerts).
• Render plain-text version 1:1 with the HTML — transactional emails are forwarded and printed more than any other type.
• Test the actual production trigger, not just the design. Most transactional bugs are merge-data issues, not styling.

How to customize this transactional template

1. 01

   Map the merge fields

Identify what your system sends (order ID, total, ship date) and place merge tags in the matching slots.

2. 02

   Apply brand styling

Apply your brand profile so the transactional template feels visually identical to your marketing emails.

3. 03

   Wire to your transactional service

Drop the HTML into Resend, SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark, or AWS SES — every major transactional ESP accepts the export format.
